Photos and short trip reports, from Slovakia where I pay my annual summer visit. This country has some of the best preserved mountain forest anywhere in Europe and not surprisingly holds a diverse amphibian and reptile fauna.

I had a prolonged stay in Slovakia for the months of March, half of April and then the whole of June. This allowed for more observations of wildlife compared to my usual mid summer visits.

Having left Thailand at the end of June I had a 2 week house quarantine followed by several more weeks of free afterwards in Slovakia. I travelled quite a lot, mainly hoping to see some large mammals. After several failed attempts I finally managed to see an Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx) in the wild for the first time at the end of the trip.
